CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
The petite woman with blond curly hair that was on the plane arrived behind Cirdan with an old olive-toned woman with gray curly hair andâ¦no eyes.
âLet go of my hand!â She snatched herself away from the petite dragon girl as if she were an annoyance. âI didnât need you escorting me here, child.â She spat. âI may not have eyes but I can still see.â
âSorry.â She replied, her voice sweet.
âWho are you?â I asked, but then wondered why I did? Did it matter?
âA very old Fae who is here to heal you.â She replied, and it was then that I noticed the pointed ears and behind her were real moving wings! She placed her hand over me and a circle formed around me of tiny roots and sprouts, which freaked me out when they stabbed at my skin until they pierced it and entered my body. âRemain calm.â The old woman said harshly, her eyes closed where ever her hand hovered along my body. I felt the roots inside, traveling through me like worms. I saw them under my skin coming up to my shoulder where my dress had torn and they went to work, popping my shoulder back in place and healing the inflamed muscle. They also moved to where my surface burns were and soothed the area and healed the wound. Her hand then hovered over my lower abdomen, which caused cramping and I winced at the pain. I didnât think I was hurt there, but perhaps she saw something I didnât. At this point my head hit the dirt and looked up at the ceiling and then to the Imperator, who watched with no expression on his face.
I then felt the roots depart and the patch of sprouts went back into the dirt like a video playing in reverse.
âDone.â The old Fae stood up, her breathing labored, and this time she allowed the petite dragon girl to escort her away.
âRunic magic, I hadnât seen that type of magic used in quite some time.â He held out his hand for me and I took it. He helped me up.
The old man remained on his knees, but the Imperator ignored him.
âWas that you?â I asked about that obvious dragon fire that broke up that fight. I wanted to kick his ass for almost killing me.
âYes.â He replied with a small smile. âWatching you and that dithering old man fight was putting me to sleep, so I decided to put an end to the both of you.â
âJerk!â Gods, I wish I had said a better insult.
âDefending yourself against dragonâs fire with underworld flames was quite the surprise. What is your name again?â
âSukie Rose.â I sneered.
âSukie, it would seem you conjured a fire that could actually survive mine and your response time was impeccable.â He said, praising me like an instructor.
âI donât care to hear compliments from you, I just want to leave here with my head intact.â If I were to be honest with myself, I screwed up my spell.
